YUKON TRIP BRINGS DAVEY AND CANADIAN HISTORY TO LIFE Up in the northwestern corner of Canada, Agnes Leonhardt took a Davey history fi eld trip. She visited the Yukon, a territory where Alberta Utility crews from Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited, had cleared power lines for Yukon Electric almost 20 years ago. Leonhardt, who retired in 2024 after 37 years of service for Davey Canada, visited the S.S. Klondike, one of Canada's few remaining steam-powered paddle-wheelers. She learned how life on the rivers of the Yukon has changed over time, from the Indigenous peoples who travelled the riverways, to the arrival of paddle-wheelers in the 1860s, to the impact of the riverboats in linking Yukon to the rest of the world. "It would havebeen a two-three days drive for the crews taking equipment up there," Leonhardt said. "The crews camped in their trailers and tents while working for a couple of summers. It was special to discover some more history of the north." Retiree Agnes Leohardt traveled to Yukon, Canada, and learned about the history of the territory. a Davey history fi eld trip. She visited the Yukon, a territory where a Davey history fi eld trip. As of August, they are still only halfway fi nished with the trip. "Boating has been a part of my life as far back as I can remember, and this trip has been on my bucket list for 30 years" Joy, retired executive vice president and assistant to the president, said. "My dad was a boater, too, and I heard about this trip from being in the boating community. The more I talked about going, and as retirement got closer, I got to planning." After intense planning, which involved Joy getting his captain's license, the crew left the shores of Marco Island, Florida, on April 1, 2026. They traveled to the Bahamas, along the Carolina coast, up to New York City and around Lake Ontario, with their last stop in Sandusky, Ohio, on Lake Erie. They will continue their journey in Fall 2027, traveling up around lakes Michigan and Huron and down the Mississippi River and back to Florida. "I enjoyed every stinking minute of this trip," Joy said. "The challenge, seeing new cities and marinas, eating out at local restaurants, vis- iting friends and families along the way – I enjoyed it all."
