MUD, FORESTS AND HILLS NO MATCH FOR DEATHE
After a dare from a friend during some classic hockey lock-
er-room banter, Christopher Deathe took on Canada's largest
cycling event.
For 70 kilometers, or 43 miles, Deathe biked the Classic
course of the Paris to Ancaster Bicycle Race in Ontario,
navigating through tough trails, hills, mud and forest. The
race, which its website boasts is held over the "roughest
farm lanes, trails and gravel roads we can fi nd," is inspired by
the challenging Paris to Roubaix or "Hell of the North" bike
race in Europe.
"As a 56-year-old lifelong team sports athlete, stepping into
a grueling individual race like this was a completely new
mental and physical beast," Deathe, regional manager,
Hamilton offi ce, Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited,
said. "I shifted my lifestyle and started training to prove
them wrong, and I'm incredibly pleased to have completed it
in a very respectable time. It was a massive challenge, and I
know there is defi nitely room for improvement when I return
next year."
Christopher Deathe competed in the Paris to Ancaster bike race in
Ontario, battling challenging terrain across 70 kilometers, or 43 miles.
