15 July/August 2026 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN The Jacksonville Electric Authority account crews out of Jacksonville, Florida, helped feed those in need in Duval County, Florida, while putting 37 tons of mulch to good use. By the end of 2025, the crew's mulch donations, mixed with garden soil, helped support vegetable plants in fresh produce gardens ran by KIPP VOICE Academy, a public charter school serving students in underserved Jacksonville communities; Episcopal Children Services, a nonprofi t help- ing underserved children in Northeast and Central Florida; and Community Health Outreach, an individual and family services organization in Jacksonville. "I would like to believe this is exactly what John Davey was hoping to see when he started Davey back in 1880, with his hope of generations being good stewards of this industry," Mikel Ritch, general foreman, Gulf region, Eastern Utility ser- vices, said. "This program is not only educating people how to grow their own healthy food, but it also shows others how crucial it is to be good stewards of the Earth. It helps communities to educate the younger generations, and it also brings communities together all while learning." MULCH DONATIONS HELP FEED HUNDREDS IN JACKSONVILLE Thirty-seven tons of mulch donated by the Jacksonville Electric Authority account crews helped create community gardens, like this one at KIPP V.O.I.C.E Academy, for three organizations work- ing to help those in need around Jacksonville, Florida. The Davey "tree" logo is said to be designed and modeled after a bur oak tree. Nearly every employee that has worked in the Rochester, Minnesota, Residen- tial/Commercial (R/C) services offi ce has cared for a certain bur oak tree in the historic Pill Hill neighborhood in some way over the past decade. And the offi ce even made headlines when they performed the tree's removal. The 49-inch diameter tree, with two-thirds of its canopy located directly above a house, had contracted extreme root rot, which required it to be removed with a crane. The South St. Paul R/C team even played a part in the removal when they sent down a grapple truck for support. "This really shows the breadth of our ability as an offi ce and as a company," Gibson Banton, assistant district manager, Rochester, Minnesota, offi ce said. "We've had multiple arborists do work such as risk assessment LARGE BUR OAK CARE IS 'FAMILY' AFFAIR IN ROCHESTER and air spading and many climbers have climbed up into its canopy. This tree is an example of what we can all do together." STEWARDSHIP
