8 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | May/June 2026 ARBOR DAY 1: Shawn Bruzda, senior associate consultant, partnered with Scouting America Troop 252 from Kent, Ohio, for a conservation initiative at Seven Ranges Scout Reservation in Carroll County, Ohio, where Davey donated three eastern white pines and deer protection fencing the scouts needed to replace a privacy screen of four declining blue Colorado spruce trees. Bruzda taught the troop about the fundamentals of industry-standard tree siting and installation and how to safely use axes, saws, and pruning tools per Scouting America standard protocols. DRG - ECO 2: As an Environmental Advisory Commissioner for the City of Warrenville, Illinois, David Koldoff (center), senior associate consultant, took care of 300 seedlings, working with high school volunteers to divide and package them up, and then helped distribute them at the city's Arbor Day celebration this year. Nathan Paulus, senior inventory arborist, planted a bur oak sapling at Hebron Community Park while discussing proper planting techniques at an Arbor Day event in his hometown of Hebron, Illinois. Paulus had a table set up with activities for kids and free milkweed seed for planting, and he also had several trees tagged in the park and spoke about what he does with Davey and the history of Arbor Day. 1 3: Kelly Volansky, associate consultant, demonstrated how to plant a tree and supervised plantings for the Culver Community Schools third graders and high schoolers that came out to plant trees at their local park in Culver, Indiana. A total of 24 trees were planted on Earth Day, with 67 more planted around the elementary and junior-senior high days later. Aren Flint, senior associate consultant; Samantha Smock, environmental specialist; Michael Urschel, environmental specialist; and Scott Clingerman, inventory arborist, were also a part of this project. 4: Nathan Davila, senior associate consultant, created a two-day lesson plan for his daughter's third-grade class to teach the students at Empresa Elementary School how to identify tree species and how to properly inventory them by placing them on a paper map. The tree species identification session had the kids go outside, pick a tree and draw it in four parts. The tree mapping session taught the kids about spatial awareness and scaling. 3 4 CENTRAL REGION Mike Ashe, general foreman; Jeremiah Walls, groundperson; Brandon Taylor, general foreman; and Mike Mencini, account manager; along with Jeff Parson, vice president; and Mark Mittiga, area manager, helped dig the hole for the planting of a swamp white oak tree at the Summit County Historical Society's Heritage Tree planting event. The team also staffed a table with free saplings and seedlings for the public. This office also donated over 400 saplings across the central region to various accounts and clients. UTILITY 2
