15 May/June 2026 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN BEAUTIFUL VIEWS ADD TO THE WORK AT NATIONAL CATHEDRAL Javier Mejia said every time he and his crew get to work on the property of the Washington National Cathedral, it's a great experience because they get to witness beautiful views of the Washington Monument and the surrounding Washington, D.C., area. Work this year on the grounds, which is home to one of the few old growth forests still standing in the nation's capital, involved a crane removal of a declining red oak tree in January. MISSION Get to Know... Keenan Gosdin How would you describe your leadership style? We are a family orientated crew, and I take care of my team like I would my family at home. I'm firm but fair, and I set realistic expectations. I also encourage others to climb the ranks by giving them the knowledge they need to succeed. What is a leadership tip you've learned from a Davey mentor that has helped you throughout your career? You always need to be learning. You never want to become com- placent. If you stop learning, someone can get hurt. What is a leadership tip you've learned on your own that you would like to share with other employees? If you can't learn to follow, you can't learn to lead. It's like the old saying, "You have to crawl before you can walk." How can you teach something you don't know? How can you lead a group of people when you haven't learned from the leaders before you? Who is a Davey leader you look up to and why? Johnny Page (operations vice president, Gulf Region, Eastern Utility services) and Jason Agosto (operations manager, Gulf Region, Eastern Utility services). They're great people, and they start every meeting with, "This is a family." They truly embody the importance of knowing your team well. What is your favorite hobby? My grandbabies. I have one nine-year-old and two four-year-old grandkids, and they are my life. When I was younger, I used to build straw huts in my backyard. Now, I do that with them. Keenan Gosdin production manager Cullman Electric account Eastern Utility Davey has also previously completed removals of large, declining trees found on the property, and occasionally, crews have also done some pruning. "It is meaningful to work in those important properties," Mejia, foreman, special services – Mid Atlantic, Residential/ Commercial services, said. "There are always lots of tourists and visitors viewing the work we do with the crane. It motivates the team to represent Davey the best way possible."
