NERDING OUT WITH ANCIENT TREES AND DISNEY FUN
On a Disney Alaska cruise, Lou Meyer and his family saw much more than Minnie
and Mickey Mouse
™
. The Meyers' trip began in Vancouver, where they visited
Stanley Park, a 1,000-plus-acre urban park, and spotted Douglas firs, western
hemlocks and a 1,000-year-old western red cedar. Meyer's wife, Molly, and their
kids, Louie and Maggie, also got to watch Meyer nerd out on a tour of the city's
ancient trees led by a local big-tree hunter and even found a skywalk so they
could see above the lush treetops.
"For nature nerds like Davey Tree employees, this trip was perfect," Meyer,
manager, Government Operations, Davey Business Development Team, said.
"We saw glaciers, orcas, humpback whales, sea otters and sea lions. We loved
the trip, looking out at the mountains and trees, seeing the natural world and
observing how nature all interacts."

SHARKS, LIONS, LEOPARDS — OH, MY!
Tim Roberts and his wife, Sarah, saw more animals, fish and
reptiles than some see in a lifetime. On Grand Cayman in the
Caribbean last summer, scuba diving adventures brought sightings
of eagles, rays, sea turtles and gray reef sharks that swam near
Roberts' head. In Stingray City on the island, Roberts and Sarah
kissed stingrays for good luck, and at a parrot sanctuary, parrots
landed on them as they fed them right out of their hands. Three
months later, Roberts and Sarah traveled to Tanzania, venturing into
the Tarangire National Park, Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro
Crater, and staying in luxury tents at the center of them. On safari
rides, lions, hippos, elephants, buffalo, rhinoceros, leopards and
more appeared along the trek. They ended their third wedding
anniversary trip on the white sand beaches of Zanzibar.
"We saw thousands of animals," Roberts, regional safety specialist,
corporate safety, said. "My wife likes elephants, and we saw about
200 during our time there. We watched a leopard carry a gazelle up
a tree to keep it away from the hyenas that were approaching. We
were lucky enough to see the river crossing of the Great Migration
of the wildebeests and zebras. At night in our tent, we heard zebras
and even lions. It was just amazing."
