DAVEY AROUND THE WORLD
SNOWY ALPS AND GORGEOUS LAKES
DAZZLE ALL IN ONE TRIP
When preparing for their National Geographic trip to the Swiss and
Italian Alps, Kathy Hendricksen and her husband Thom packed for
weather ranging from 40 degrees to 85 degrees. The couple started
their journey in Switzerland, where they rode a gondola inside a glacier,
traveled along the country's most iconic railways and took in the
beautiful snowy alps. They were even able to see the Matterhorn from
their hotel room. In warm, sunny Italy, they took a private boat ride on
Lake Como, saw a pasta-making demonstration and took a walking
tour around Lake Maggiore, along with other activities.
"It was like you're in a fairytale," Hendricksen said. "It was great
seeing the mountains and the beautiful scenery. We learned a lot
about the history of the places we visited, went by George Clooney's
villa, had a private tour of the 400-year-old baroque Palazzo Borromeo
and gardens and enjoyed gourmet food. It was amazing."

in Switzerland with a view of the Swiss and Italian Alps and glaciers
behind her.

A BEAUTIFUL WEDDING IN A BEAUTIFUL SPOT
In Italy, Karin Walgren got to see Michaelangelo's David at the Galleria dell'Accademia,
the Duomo cathedral in Florence, plenty of shops and restaurants – and her
youngest son get married.
Walgren's son Andrew and his longtime sweetheart, Ali, picked this destination
wedding because Andrew studied abroad in Italy during college, and the couple
had visited the country several times before the big day. Their wedding consisted
of a rehearsal with a three-course, homemade pizza dinner, an accordion player and
Italian singer and beautiful sights at every turn.
Walgren and her family also took a tour of the vineyard and attended a wine tasting,
all while staying at Castello Vicchiomaggio, a castle in Tuscany.
"The castle itself, with 16 acres of vineyard, the flowers, the weather – it was all
spectacular," Walgren, coordinator, Hamden office, Residential/Commercial, said.
"About 55 people were in attendance. There was a chapel on site where Andrew
and Ali shared their vows in Italian. In typical Italian style, the outdoor reception
had one whole table for all of us. It was just beautiful."
