15 November/December 2025 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN A large Mahogany tree sits in between the cab and trailer of a semi-truck before a Davey R/C crew responded to the scene. MISSION ROCHESTER OFFICE PERFORMS INTRICATE WORK While working to stabilize a multi-stem oak tree with a nine-foot diameter that extended over two residences, CJ Nichols came up with quite a unique idea. Because the structure of the tree had five leads, he knew its branch unions could become a place where moisture would collect and possibly cause failure. He and his crew ended up installing an intricate five-point hub-and-spoke cabling system, an infrequently used process, that added supplemental support in case of decay or bad branch structure." "I owe a lot to Davey for the knowledge I have in the arboriculture industry, and I have a background in ornamental horticulture which helps, as well," Nichols, foreman, Rochester office, Residential/Commercial services, said. "In 2018, I attended D.I.T.S., where I was able to acquire my International Society of Arboriculture certification and learned about many topics that have helped me on the job, including cabling." CJ Nichols ascends into a large oak tree as he and his crew work to install a unique stabilizing system. QUICK RESPONSE HELPS CLEAR TRUCK ACCIDENT IN HOURS Within five minutes after a call from the City of Naples' arborist, Ethan Jaques and his crew arrived on the scene of an accident to see a Mahogany tree branch hanging between a semi-truck's cab and trailer that blocked the roadway. The truck had been turning onto a street when its driver cut a corner and hit the tree's lowest lead closest to the road, taking off its entire branch. In a few short hours, the crew removed the branch and cleared away all debris and any additional damage to city trees that resulted from the accident. "I view each job as an opportunity to build long-term relationships based on trust, respect, and a shared commitment to better our environment," Jacques, foreman, Naples office, Residential/Commercial (R/C) services, said. "By staying reliable, responsive, and focused on delivering value, I believe we as a team contribute meaningfully to Davey's mission of excellence and community service. We take pride in delivering high-quality service that goes beyond expectations."
