10 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | November/December 2025 EXPERTISE Ross Sheats, Cody Clements and Logan Cox embarked on a truly unique project for Davey Resource Group's Utility Asset Management services in July. The trio was tasked with collecting field data from 70 total poles deemed to be at the end of their lifecycle on Sapelo and Hird islands, two extremely remote areas along Georgia's Atlantic coast that are only accessible by boat. To ensure safety in the extreme heat the crew faced, they were provided with life jackets, camel packs for hydration, snake chaps, and Thermacell devices for insect control. They also had to navigate their UTV through treacherous terrain, EXTREME CONDITIONS CAN'T STOP THIS UAM CREW such as marshland, and were trained and signed off for machete use due to the overgrown conditions. They met their client's timeframe expectations and completed the work in a day and a half. "This reflects Davey's mission of excellent client service in a few different ways," Sheats, UAM engineering project supervisor, ENG Expansion account, DRG, said. "We completed this potentially dangerous project without compromising our safety-focused approach, and the quality of the field data we collected avoided in-field re-surveys, which would have been costly and time consuming due to the remote nature of both islands." Get to Know... ROSS SHEATS When did you start at Davey and in what role? I started in January 2024. My initial role was as a senior designer, and then I received a title change to engineering project supervisor. What is your current title and responsibilities? Engineering project supervisor, and my job responsibilities include helping manage three projects. Those projects include helping run our permitting department, as well as run the day-to-day operations of the Georgia Power Pole Replacement project and the Georgia Power Make Ready Engineering project. What do you like most about your job? The collaboration I get to engage in across our team. Our team consists of a lot of well-established relationships, with a genuine camaraderie shared by everyone. I feel lucky to be a part of this team. I also enjoy managing client relationships. Who has had a significant impact on you at Davey? Chad Hall, Matt Acker, Brandon Hall and Joe Tommasi, Jr., have been crucial to my professional development. Their support has been crystal clear since day one, and they have challenged me to be more confident in my role as a leader. The support of Brian Oakes, Andrea Acker, Savanah Rotllan and Marley Bonner have been incredible in their roles as leads on various projects. I feel lucky to have those four on my team, and our operation wouldn't be successful without them. What is your favorite music genre? Rock. Oasis is my favorite band of all time, and I think Led Zeppelin is the best rock band of all time. What is something you like to do outside Davey? I enjoy playing golf, video games and attending sporting events.
