The Larry Evans Arborist & Fitness (LEAF) Campus opened
this year in Livermore, California, to serve as a training
facility for Davey Tree Surgery Company employees.
An initial, two-day training session was held at the LEAF
Campus for local utility account Surgery Company
managers, to discuss time management skills, safety
leadership, and employee training development.
Weekly classes are currently being held two days per
week with field Surgery Company employees attending
as trainees, who are learning client competency skills and
going through proficiency testing.
"The LEAF Campus is designed to support Surgery
Company employees, starting with the fitness of our Davey
Industrial Athletes," said Matt Krause, safety and training
field manager, Surgery Company. "In addition, we are
supporting the work practices of our utility line clearance
and pole test and treatment employees, along with the
capacity to accommodate employees in an Entry-Level
Driver Training area."
Krause said the feedback from both employees and clients
has been amazing. "The employees have never had a
renewable resource of training structures like they now
have at LEAF," he added. "It is a great benefit for a new hire
all the way to a seasoned or advanced arborist to be able
to perform this work in a controlled environment, and on
structures that do not have to be replaced frequently."
