Kovacik said. "We remediated the pond by using Davey's
biochar, in biochar socks, to organically filter the water."
Westminster Memorial Park's water infrastructure has now
been upgraded with a cutting-edge central control system,
replacing irrigation hardware, and installing large-scale
water pumps.
Andrew Chase, technical advisor, Davey Institute, serves
as the project manager. Chase and Jason McIntyre,
consultant, Davey
Institute, manages the
remote monitoring,
and site staff training
for the retrofitted
water delivery system,
which will continue
for the next year.
IRRIGATION UPDATES FOR CENTURY-OLD SYSTEM
The Davey Institute Water Management Team conducted
an irrigation and water-use assessment for Westminster
Memorial Park and Mortuary in Westminster, California,
which spans nearly 88 acres. This site's original water
delivery system was installed in 1924.
The Davey Institute Water Management Team, led by Paul
Kovacik, manager, assessed the property's water delivery
system by checking the condition of the wells, the pumps,
the efficiency of the irrigation system, retention pond, and
the health of the soil
and water.
"The assessment
resulted in draining the
pond, removing the
sediment, and getting
the aerators working
to circulate the water,"

Davey Institute employees met at the Davey Institute in Kent, Ohio, and
presented detailed reports on research from the projects they worked
on throughout 2024. The research discussed included topics such as soil
health tactics and effects; plant and tree nutrition; and pest, insect, and
animal management. Scan the QR code to view video recordings of the
