7 January/February 2025 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN Jim Zwack has been promoted to vice president and general manager, Environmental Consulting services, Davey Resource Group, and Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., a Davey company. He joined Davey in 2010 as the director of technical services, Davey Institute. In 2017, he was promoted to general manager, Davey Institute, and in 2019 he was promoted to his most recent role as vice president and general manager, Davey Institute. Zwack holds a master's degree in tree physiology from Iowa State University and a bachelor's degree in urban forestry from the University of Minnesota. Geoff Cowan has been promoted to vice president and general manager, Residential/ Commercial (R/C) services, Western Operations. He joined Davey in 1983 as a tree care trainee, West Cleveland office. After serving in a number of roles in various offices, he was promoted to market manager, North Central Chicago-area R/C services operations in 2014 and then was promoted to operations manager in 2017. He most recently served as the vice president of North Central Operations, R/C services, a role he was promoted to in 2021. Cowan is a 1987 Davey Institute of Tree Sciences graduate, a past President's Council member, and a three-time recipient of Davey's Outstanding Manager award. Dan Herms has been promoted to vice president and general manager, Davey Institute. He joined Davey in 2018 in his most recent role as vice president of research and development, Davey Institute. Herms holds a Ph.D. in entomology with specializations in ecology and evolutionary biology from Michigan State University and bachelor's degrees in landscape horticulture and entomology from The Ohio State University. Thea Sears has been promoted to senior vice president and controller. She joined Davey in 1993, and her responsibilities have included roles in financial reporting, managerial reporting, and operations accounting. In 2010, Sears was named assistant controller and was later promoted to corporate con- troller in 2016. Most recently, she was promoted to the position of vice president and controller in 2018. Sears holds a bachelor's degree in industrial management from the University of Akron and is a certified public accountant. Sears is a past member of President's Council.
