THE DAVEY BULLETIN
Jamie Morgan, associate consultant,
Environmental Consulting services,
Davey Resource Group, volunteered
to speak to her four-year-old son Clay's
preschool class about trees and her
role at Davey.
Morgan first spoke about the value
of "big trees" and what makes them
special with the class, before giving
a demonstration on how to measure
a tree's diameter at breast height.
Morgan also brought in examples of
different leaf types (simple, divided,
compound), and showed the children
what tree tubes look like and explained
how they are used to protect young
trees from deer damage. She addi-
tionally spoke about the endangered
native New Jersey pawpaw tree and
the pawpaw fruit it produces.
"I think it's important to instill a love
and appreciation for trees in kids at
an early age," Morgan said. "I'm also
happy to be able to share career
opportunities in our industry with them,
and how rewarding it can be to work
outside with trees and plants."

principles once during the fall and the spring respectively.
He has also previously led "tree walks" with the community.
"I enjoy talking to and helping people connect with trees,"
St. Sauveur said. "It's really a community effort from
professionals in Knoxville engaging and involving the
community in trees."
