An EF-1 tornado, with peak winds of 97 mph, caused a
path of destruction through Highlands Ranch, Colorado,
located south of Denver.
Sean Hoes, district manager, South Denver office, said
tornadoes are not typical in the area. "It blew in around
4:30 p.m. We could see the funnel cloud from the office.
Within 15 minutes, the phone started ringing. In response,
I immediately drove out to a neighborhood, and saw
hundreds of trees fully blown over. Trees were laying on
the ground, houses, across streets and fences, fully
uprooted," Hoes said.
The East, North, Southeast, and West Denver offices all
pitched in to help the South Denver office with cleanup
efforts. "Our office had three crews of three, and the other
four offices each had a couple of crews working each day
for about three weeks," Hoes said.

Gerry Tuzon, foreman, South Denver office, said one of his
crews moved around 25 to 30 cubic yards of storm debris
per day. "On a normal day, we might remove five to 10 yards
of material," Tuzon said.
Hoes added, "All of the offices got right on board. We could
all see how severe the damage was, and everyone jumped
in to help, including offices with certified crane operators.
No one had any issues. We made it as safe as possible
for our people and the clients. Everyone did a great job,
response-wise."
