ISA TREE CLIMBING CHAMPIONSHIPS Annamaria Cervantes, trimmer, Portland, Ore. office, placed second in Belayed Speed Climb, third in Aerial Rescue, and fifth overall for the women, at the British Columbia Tree Climbing Competition at Mill Lake Park in Abbotsford, British Columbia from July 7 to 9. Joseph Gignac, crew leader, Nanaimo Residential office, placed third in Belayed Speed Climb, and 24 th overall for the men; Jason Mayorga, regional safety specialist, health and safety department, won Ascent and placed fourth overall; and Theodore Waite (pictured at the Work Climb event), assistant district manager, Victoria Residential office, placed 31 st overall. LEADERSHIP BRITISH COLUMBIA Davey had a strong presence at the ISA 2023 International Conference, held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in August. A.D. Ali, manager, special projects, Davey Institute; Manny Nassar, technical advisor; Tara Costanzo, technical advisor, presented during the educational sessions, and Dana Karcher, project developer, Davey Resource Group (DRG), Environmental Consulting services (EC), moderated the Women in Arboriculture panel. Gail Nozal, area manager, DRG, EC, currently serves, and Shirley Vaughn, project developer, DRG, EC, served on the ISA Board of Directors. Davey sponsored the Urban Forest Walkway, bringing live trees into the conference center to "green" up the conference. Davey will also plant a tree with Arbor Day for every conference attendee, a total 894 trees. Matthew Paruzynski (pictured), foreman, South St. Paul office, placed fourth overall for the men, first in Aerial Rescue, and fifth in the men's Masters' Challenge at the Minnesota Tree Climbing Championship, held at Sturges Park in Buffalo, Minnesota, May 19 to 21. Abigail Alm, foreman, Fort Collins office, placed 10 th overall for the women. For the men, Christian Feichtinger, arborist skills trainer, Davey Institute, placed 13 th overall; Zachary Fuentes, foreman, North Minneapolis office, placed 46 th overall; Jake Hauger, foreman, North Minneapolis office, placed 26 th overall; Jacob Niemann, trimmer, South Minneapolis office, placed 42 nd overall; Matthew Sharrow, foreman, South Minneapolis office, placed 18 th overall; and Jacob Shocinski, foreman, North Minneapolis office, placed 36 th overall. MINNESOTA Nick Carson (pictured), trimmer, Chippers Meredith office, placed fourteenth overall for the men at the New England Chapter ISA Tree Climbing Championship held at the Mount Ida Campus of UMass Amherst in Newton, Massachusetts from June 16 to 17. Blake Duval, arborist skills trainer, Davey Institute, placed eighth overall; Derek Estabrooks, trimmer, Hartney Greymont Concord office, placed 21 st overall; and Cory Rebello, foreman, Hartney Greymont Cape Cod office, placed 13 th . NEW ENGLAND Jose Cabanas, (pictured) trimmer, North Philadelphia office, placed 26 th overall; and Martin Chavez, trimmer, North Pittsburgh office, placed 17 th overall, in the Penn-Del ISA Chapter's Tree Climbing Competition in May at Mellon Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. PENNSYLVANIA Peter Baker, foreman, Northwest Seattle office placed 25 th overall for the men at the Portland, Oregon Tree Climbing Competition held at Laurelhurst Park in Portland, Oregon from June 9 to 10. Jason Mayorga, regional safety specialist, health and safety department placed 10 th overall; Marco Oran Aguilar (pictured), foreman, Portland, Ore. office, placed 18 th overall. The award recognizes individuals whose service has made a substantial contribution to practical arboriculture.
