TGR APPLICATORS SWITCH TO ZERO EMISSIONS In San Diego, California, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, two Davey Resource Group (DRG), Utility Vegetation Management services (UVM) tree growth regulator (TGR) teams have replaced their gas-powered trucks with Ford F-150 ® Lightning all-electric trucks. In addition to swapping out gas for electric-powered trucks, Vince Mikulanis, Western operations division manager, DRG, UVM, said Chris Fleming, UVM lead specialist, worked with suppliers to find a solution to add an electric motor to UVM lead specialists Dan Defelice, pictured using a TGR backpack sprayer, and Chris Fleming operate the Ford F-150 ® Lightning, pictured on the right, in San Diego. Corey Dyson, UVM technician, along with Quentin Stewart and Landon Tolbert, project managers, DRG, UVM, also operate a Lightning for TGR applications in Oklahoma City. Gas-powered backpack sprayers have been replaced with battery- powered ones, which are charged by the Lightning. the spray rig. "It runs off a 12-volt deep cycle battery, and we use the Lightning to charge that battery, allowing us to operate at zero emissions," Mikulanis said.
