7 May/June 2023 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN MISSION 5-STAR REVIEW PROGRAM CREATES POSITIVE ENGAGEMENT The Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited, Residential offices are entering into the third year of their Google 5-star review competition, which runs from spring through fall. The competition tracks which offices generate the most 5-star reviews. Here's how it works: The employee in charge of a crew thanks the client for the work at the end of the job. Then, they ask the client to please give them a review and provide a card with instructions for the client to complete a review. The Nanaimo office won the overall competition in 2022. "The reviews program is a great way to encourage team building," said David Hunter, district manager, Nanaimo office. "Beyond earning a team-building activity, we have seen other benefits such as the long-term effect it has had on our lead generation as well as our collective commitment to client service." The key to Nanaimo's success was a combined consistent effort from all levels of staff at every point of interaction with their clients. "The competition was enthusiastically received by our clients who liked to hear about our success story as we took the lead. By engaging our clients in this they were more invested in our team. We were sure to follow up with them to keep them in the loop!" Hunter added. Before the reviews competition program began three years ago, Davey Canada had 178 reviews across the country. "As of December 2022, we increased that number to 1,039 reviews," said John Arico, operations vice president, residential services, Davey Canada. "Implementing this competition has increased client engagement, as well as arborist personal recognition and interaction." Google review competition: • Challenge for the highest number of 5-star reviews by all 23 Canada Residential offices. • Scores determined by dividing the number of 5-star reviews by the number of employees in the office and are tracked monthly. • Each employee from the office with the highest score for the month wins a prize. • At the end of the spring through fall season, the office with the highest score wins a team- building event of their choice. The office with the second-highest score wins Davey apparel for each employee. In this day and age everyone reads reviews before they go to dinner or hire a service. Growing our number of reviews is one of the best ways to grow our company. Seeing all the positive comments from all the clients always puts a smile on my face. I have even had clients say to me when showing up to a job, I've read about you in the reviews, and we were hoping to get you working on our trees! Alex Atkin sales arborist, Ottawa office The Nanaimo office spent an afternoon snow shoeing and a night at a cabin on Mount Washington to celebrate winning the 2022 review competition. "As great as this win was for our team in Nanaimo, it was also fun to enjoy friendly rivalry with our colleagues across Canada and help spur us all on to success.
