NANAIMO OFFICE ENJOYS WEEKLONG WORK ON GULF ISLAND
The Nanaimo Residential office's Angel Thomas Miramond,
foreman; Will Johnston, PHC technician; Joe Gignac,
climber; and apprentice Micheal Stammers, enjoyed a week
working on a private island in British Columbia, Canada, part
of a chain of islands known as the Gulf Islands.
The team removed many large Douglas fir trees to mitigate
overhead hazards around structures and trails around the
island. Powerful windstorms had hit the island over the
winter and caused the uprooting of several significant trees
while others were removed as a precautionary measure due
to signs of root rot.
"Working on an island presents unique hazards. We took
extra measures to be prepared to handle an emergency,
such as a thorough emergency evacuation plan. This kind
MISSION
of work also offers us a unique break from regular work life.
We stayed in a cabin on the island and were able to enjoy
the scenery and nature, including Orca whales, which
regularly pass by the area," Miramond said.
David Hunter, district manager, said the island's owners
wanted to pass along a message to Davey and said, 'Thank
you so much for your team's work. We appreciate you taking
such good care of our trees!'
