Charlie Miller, sales arborist, met with the Old Town Triangle Association Neighborhood Improvement Committee to help plan the event. Davey donated mulch and tree watering bags. Sales arborists Brian Domek and Sam Miles from the Glen Ellyn office hosted a booth at Franklin Park's Earth Day event. They gave away tree seedlings with planting guidelines and wildflower and sunflower seed packets. Brendan Kosteroski, foreman, Glen Ellyn office, organized a tree climbing demonstration at Itasca's Arbor Day event at Springbrook Nature Center. Sam Miles, sales arborist, and Sean Zieche, district manager, joined him. The Glen Ellyn team handed out white oak, white pine, and bald cypress tree seedlings and sunflower and wildflower seeds. Ryan Sherman, district manager, Barrington office, and John Kelly, business developer, Davey Business Development Team, held tree identification and knot-tying classes at the Village of Deer Park's Arbor Day in Vehe Park. They planted a shagbark hickory tree during a ceremony at the village hall. Lake Zurich High School student volunteers Luciya Kojenova, Marin David, and Mayah Radoy assisted. At Ivey Hill Elementary School in Arlington Heights, Illinois, about 500 students learned about Arbor Day. Kathy Hendricksen, manager, business development and client service, Schaumburg office, and the Wheeling office's Angel Cruz, trimmer, and Alfonso Alvarez, trimmer, spoke to the children about tree benefits and how to use tree watering bags. Cruz and Alvarez planted an Autumn Blaze maple tree at the school. John Tobias, assistant district manager, organized Davey's involvement in the event. 5: DETROIT-AREA OFFICES Pictured from left are Christian Mortimer, sales arborist, Northeast Detroit office; Josh Leo, business developer, Davey Business Development Team; Bob Brinker, district manager, Northeast Detroit office; Andy Shaffran, district manager, North Detroit office; and Matt Peasley, sales arborist, North Detroit office. They visited Hamilton-Parsons Elementary School in Leonard, Michigan, to talk about Arbor Day with 100 first-grade students. They explained the life cycle of an apple tree, how an acorn becomes an oak tree, and demonstrated planting a white pine tree. Brinker and Jon Streich, assistant district manager, Northeast Detroit office, volunteered on Earth Day to help the St. Clair Shores Waterfront Environmental Committee in a community cleanup event in Kyte Monroe Park. Shaffran, Chad Allen, district manager, Northwest Detroit office, and Mat Garey, district manager, Detroit Lawncare office, hosted a Davey booth at the Oakland County Earth Day Climate March, Rally, and Fair. They handed out sunflower seeds and offered information about the benefits of maintaining trees and lawns. Allen, Garey, and Leo also handed out wildflower seeds and rain gauges, at West Bloomfield Township, Michigan's Earth Day. 4 3: CHESAPEAKE OFFICE Rob Dallmann, district manager, Chesapeake office, volunteered at St. Luke's Earth Day and the Arts Festival at St. Luke's Church in Annapolis, Maryland, to demonstrate planting a Redbud tree. He was joined by his wife, Leina, and children, Rumi, age 9; Ezra, age 7; and Okami, age 3. Before the festival, Dallmann learned the church's amphitheater was in disrepair. The week prior, the Chesapeake office worked on a crane job for a nearby client to remove a large white oak tree that had died. Trimmers Blaze Breeding (pictured) and Haley Rhodes used logs from the white oak to rebuild the church's amphitheater. The removal client happend to attend the festival, and Dallmann found out she was not only a church member but was pleasantly surprised the logs from her oak tree were used to rebuild the amphitheater. 1 1: ALBANY OFFICE On Earth Day, Joe Oszust, sales arborist (pictured), led a tree talk walk at Pine Hollow Arboretum in Slingerlands, New York. About 20 people, including a group of Davey clients who are residents of a neighborhood HOA, learned about trees that would be appropriate to plant in their communities. Climate-facing tree varieties discussed included dawn redwood, katsura, magnolia, and more. 2: CHARLOTTE OFFICE Mark Livingston, sales arborist, pictured with TreesCharlotte mascot Rooty, and Erin Livingston, client experience coordinator, ran an "Ask the Arborist" booth at two Arbor Day celebrations in Charlotte, North Carolina. On April 16, they attended the NoDa Arbor Day Festival, and on April 29, they were at TreesCharlotte's inaugural TreeFest, where attendees received river birch and Virginia pine tree seedlings provided by TreesCharlotte. 10 2 5 6
