The power company expressed their appreciation for our work and was very thankful. We had a great management team who kept in contact with us multiple times a day," Delo said. Thirty-two employees from the Buffalo Residential/ Commercial services office responded to hundreds of storm recovery calls. "On Christmas morning, the winds had finally subsided to the point I felt comfortable driving to work. It was basically white out conditions for a few days prior to that," said Tom Anderson, district manager, Buffalo office. "There was a water main break on the street where our office is located. It was like a skating rink in front of our office, and the snow drifts were so high in the parking lot, we weren't able to pull in." One of the pipes in the Buffalo office had burst, and the office was flooded. "Pipes that had burst all over Western New York caused a lot of property damage," Anderson added. Anderson and his team responded to hundreds of storm- related calls. "There were a lot of uprooted trees, many blown over evergreens," he said. "A group home housing those with disabilities had a tree fall on their house. We responded right away to remove the tree," Anderson said. Andy Cunniff, market manager, Northlands operations, coordinated bringing in a crane from the Youngstown office. George Shiner, foreman, Youngstown office, operated the crane and assisted the Buffalo office for three weeks. In addition, Scott Morris, district manager, Albany office, lent the Buffalo office their four-wheel drive bucket truck to help with storm recovery efforts. "We had a lot of support behind the scenes," Anderson said. "I have a phenomenal team. I work with amazing people. They really kept everything moving. I cannot say enough good things about the people on my team here in Buffalo," Anderson said. Lori Brockelbank, area manager, Environmental Consulting services (EC), Davey Resource Group (DRG), responded to just over 300 calls from Buffalo citizens who called the city's 311 Call and Resolution Center to report trees or branches downed by the storm. She inspected the trees, and relayed her findings to the city forester, who then assigned the cleanup work to the city's crews. "Approximately 85 trees were removed completely. In most cases, trees fell into the road or onto citizen's homes," Brockelbank said. When speaking with the city forester, Brockelbank said she and the forester both commented that this was the worst storm they've encountered in the eight years they've been working together. "This storm was both physically and mentally difficult, knowing how many lives were impacted and lost in the storm, leaving a deep, lasting impact on us," Brockelbank said. BUFFALO NEW YORK Davey Tree Expert Co. Kent, OH 44240 BUFFALO OFFICE Lukas Suzano From start to finish, a great experience. Lukas came out right after a blizzard ended on a holiday to do the estimate. The crew came out to work immediately in horrific conditions (thigh-high snow)! They did an amazing job and cleaned up the debris. Professional, hard- working, courteous, and completed the job quickly…I just cannot say enough good things. Karen Myszka Lake View, New York "Snow was blowing every which way, and there were spots where the snow drifts were up to the roofs on houses. It was a wall of snow." Rob Delo
