15 March/April 2023 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN Bobby White and James "Aubrey" Williams, UVM technicians, DRG, were traveling for work when they witnessed a woman fall and hit her head at their hotel. They jumped into action, helping her to her room and providing first aid. The woman and her husband, both in their 80s, could not drive at night. White and Williams volunteered to take them to the emergency room. "I just went through my day and did a good deed," Williams said. "It makes me happy." White recognized their training helped them act quickly. "Even though this incident wasn't work related, having first aid training for work helped us act fast," White said. "Hearing the appreciation feels good. I'm happy she's doing well." As for the woman Williams and White helped, she couldn't feel more blessed. "You hired two angels," said Rita Martin-Kollmar. DRG EMPLOYEES HELP INJURED ELDERLY WOMAN SWIFT ACTION HELPS HOMEOWNER IN NEED Thomas Johnson, sales arborist in the North Minneapolis R/C office, was meeting with a homeowner when he noticed she was showing symptoms of a stroke. Johnson instructed his crew to call 911 while he assisted her until first responders arrived. Worried the situation would affect the crew, Johnson cleared the rest of his schedule to finish the job with them. "It turned into a four-person job, with me there more or less for moral support." Johnson had to handle the emotions of the situation in the moment and afterwards. "Staying calm in the moment was easy, managing the adrenaline later was different," Johnson said. "I feel fantastic, it felt like helping her was what I was supposed to do." Thomas Johnson acted quickly and calmly to help a homeowner in duress.
