12 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | November/December 2022 MISSION Davey has cared for the landscape and trees at two long-time client's homes, one since 1982, and one since 1998. Fran Steele, who currently works with Matt Emmerson, sales arborist, Raleigh office, said, "Our first Davey experience was in August 1982, in Houston. We bought a house that had a small city lot but also a few really big trees – oak, pecan, and ash – that had not been cared for professionally since the house was built in the 1950s. We appreciated the excellent service and continued with Davey when we moved to Houston in 1996. When we bought our house in Durham, North Carolina, in 2018, we contracted Davey for guidance on tree maintenance in our new environment. We appreciate the knowledge and professionalism of our entire Davey team." Emmerson said Steele's concern for her trees and appreciation for the service she received in Houston set a standard for his team to meet in Raleigh-Durham. "Being a well-informed Davey client, Fran reminded me to include Arbor Green PRO ® in her tree care program before I mentioned it," Emmerson added. A Toledo office client since 1998, Bruce Quicker, has referred numerous neighbors within his Homeowners Association (HOA) to Davey. "He is extremely happy with the service we have continued to provide to his property," said Michael Cartier, district manager, Toledo office. "We have provided tree pruning and plant health care treatments to his landscape, which includes a wide array of plant material. He said he doesn't trust any other company than Davey with his prized landscape." Jim Houston, vice president and general manager, Eastern Operations, U.S. Residential/Commercial (R/C) Services and Commercial Landscape Services, personally worked with Quicker when Houston was the Toledo office district man- ager in 1998. "He was more than just a client to us. He was a friend, mentor, and had high expectations. We are very proud he's still a valued client today," Houston said. SAFETY CERTIFIED CRANE TRAINING Ten Residential/Commercial services employees from Mid-Atlantic and Northeast Ohio operations participated in a 3rd Party Operator Qualification crane training on the SEED Campus, organized by the health and safety department's Jeremy Lewis, manager, Roy Montan, senior regional safety specialist; and the Davey Institute's Richard Denbeau, arborist skills trainer. The certification is OSHA-recognized and complies with American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) standards. The training covered mobile crane inspections, site set-up, electrical hazards, understanding crane load limit weight charts, and other aspects. Tom Schaefer, trimmer, Akron office, said the training gave space to learn and practice in a safe and controlled environment. "Having a place to do this outside of production allowed me to learn with the direct involvement of trainers and experienced operators. This course helped me gain the knowledge and ability to increase my skillset as my career with Davey progresses," Schaefer said. Jason Alrutz, foreman, South Pittsburgh office Martin Chavez, trimmer, North Pittsburgh office Chris Lohmann, trimmer, King of Prussia office Tyler Martin, trimmer, Buffalo office Dan Nance, foreman, West Columbus office CJ Nichols, foreman, Buffalo office Eric Phillips, assistant district manager, Akron office Philip Root, trimmer, Columbus office Tom Schaefer, trimmer, Akron office Mark Woolf, foreman, North Philadelphia office Crane Training Graduates: Above: Employees operated swing cab cranes during the practical crane operation test.
