MISSION
HURRICANE FIONA RESPONSE AIDED BY DAVEY CANADA CREWS
Twelve employees from The Davey Tree Expert Co. of
Canada, Limited's Residential offices in Hamilton, Niagara,
Toronto North West and Ottawa traveled to Halifax, Nova
Scotia, to help the community recover after Hurricane Fiona
made landfall in late September.
John Ransom, operations manager, Residential services,
said the hurricane response involved a lot of advanced
planning from Davey Canada's support personnel to manage
logistics related to permits needed to make the 19-hour
drive east to the coast.
"Once our crews got there, they reported to the city of
Halifax, which helped residents of the surrounding area with
storm cleanup, property damage, removing debris off of
roofs and power lines to get power restored," Ransom said.
Crews worked for 11 days on storm recovery. Once their
response ended, four employees were contracted by Bell
Canada to continue working along the coast helping the
company get its communication lines back up and functioning.
Ransom said the damage from this storm was relatively less
severe compared with past storms but more widespread
throughout Halifax.
"It was mostly a lot of blown over trees, trees with broken
tops, and broken limbs," he said.
