31 November/December 2022 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN Julie Kline, landscape crew leader, Cleveland East territory, volunteers to transport dogs to rescuers, adopters, and foster homes. She does this through a public Facebook group called the UnderBoneRailroad, a volunteer network of animal transporters from all over the country. Transport through the UnderBoneRailroad is done in a chain, with volunteers offering to drive the dogs for a leg of their journey to their destination. Kline volunteers to be a transporter several times a month. Being part of this network has allowed Kline to make great friends and create connections with people she would have otherwise never met. She's also gained a few furry members of her family through her volunteer work. "If you have the time to get involved, I highly recommend it," Kline said. "It breaks your heart knowing the circumstances some of these dogs were in, but it's rewarding to be part of their journey to finding their forever homes." A STEP ALONG A DOG'S JOURNEY TO A FUR-EVER HOME Do you have a fun hobby? Send an email to bulletin@davey.com describing your hobby for a chance to be featured! Pictured are Julie Kline and her daughter during an animal transport. Some of the dogs are rescued from terrible situations. Kline said it's amazing how these dogs know they are there to help them and the peace that comes over them when they know they are safe. DAVEY PEOPLE Chris Deathe, market manager, coordinated a team-building paintball event with his Hamilton, Burlington, Niagara and Brantford, Ontario Residential operations. Deathe also invited the local Ontario West Utility employees to join the fun. This team-building event was an opportunity for employees PAINTBALL AND TEAM BUILDING to build relationships outside of their office and recognize that they are part of a larger Davey family. "This united us as a community," Deathe said. "That was a comment we heard often from the employees throughout the day." Employees from Hamilton, Burlington, Niagara and Brantford, Ontario Residential operations, and the local Ontario West Utility operations.
