18 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | September/October 2022 ISA TREE CLIMBING CHAMPIONSHIPS LEADERSHIP Davey's Sydney Hudzinski (pictured in the tree), foreman, South St. Paul office, and Christian Feichtinger, skills trainer, Davey Institute, placed in the Masters' Challenge in their respective divisions at the Minnesota Society of Arboriculture's (MSA) Tree Climbing Championship. Hudzinski placed second in the women's division and Feichtinger placed third in the men's. Matthew Sharrow, foreman, South Minneapolis office, placed fourteenth in the men's. "I have only been climbing for about two years now. It was such an amazing day seeing the hard work I have put in to get here," Hudzinski said. Feichtinger said seeing all his friends and peers was the most memorable part for him. "I really enjoyed the walk out to my masters' climb. All my friends were there to cheer me on." Alex Julius, employee development and safety training specialist, placed first, and Libby Bower, trimmer, Lake Bluff office, placed second overall for the women at the Illinois Arborist Association (IAA) Tree Climbing Championship, which took place at Shiloh Park in Zion, Illinois. The Davey Institute's Eduardo Medina, skills trainer, and Don Roppolo, director, arborist training, helped organize and run the event as chairpersons. The competition is held annually by the Ohio Chapter of the ISA (OCISA). Erik Foster, trimmer, Columbus office, is pictured preparing for the Ascent event. He placed twenty-third overall in the men's division. About three dozen Davey employees attended as volunteers, representing R/C services, CLS, and DRG. Nick Stutzman, district manager, North East Cleveland office, organized the volunteers. "I would like to thank each and every Davey employee who was involved in the Ohio TCC. We received great recognition from the ISA and the event chair because we had the greatest presence at this event compared to other companies," Stutzman said. Held at the City of Nairobi Park in Denver, Colorado, seven Davey employees competed in the Rocky Mountain Chapter (RMC) Tree Climbing Championship. Competing climbers were Abby Alm (pictured second from left), foreman, Fort Collins office; Austin Haskett, foreman, Fort Collins office; Sydney Hudzinski (on the left), foreman, South St. Paul office, Justin Kysar, foreman, South Denver; Jack Mazzone, foreman, East Denver office; Morgan Nash (third from left), trimmer, East Denver office; and Jess Orozco (on the right), trimmer, North Denver office. For the women, Alm finished second overall and in the Masters' Challenge; Hudzinski placed fourth overall; and Nash placed third in Aerial Rescue. Mazzone placed thirteenth overall for the men. Ten Davey employees provided volunteer support for the event. The International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Tree Climbing Championships highlighted include the competitions Davey has been involved with so far in 2022. ILLINOIS Davey employees volunteered, and five employees competed, in the New York State Tree Climbing Championship, held in Oyster Bay, New York. Daniel Barnes (pictured on the right), foreman, Albany office; Eamon Burke, foreman, Elmsford office; Dillon Engelmann (on the left), trimmer, Albany office; Andrew Gardner (in the middle), trimmer, Albany office; and Sam Schunk, foreman, Elmsford office competed. In the Masters' Challenge, Schunk placed second, and Barnes placed third. NEW YORK MINNESOTA OHIO ROCKY MOUNTAIN Davey sponsored the New England Chapter (NEC) Tree Climbing Championship held at Farm Pond Park in Framingham, Massachusetts. Sam Schunk (pictured on the left), foreman, Elmsford office; Cory Rebello (middle), foreman, Hartney Greymont, a Davey company, Cape Cod office; and Emmett Shutts (on the right), supervisor, arborist skills trainer, Davey Institute, competed. Schunk took third place in the Belayed Speed Climb, and Shutts took first place in Aerial Rescue and third place in Throwline. Volunteers at the event were Faith Hammerstrom, inventory arborist technician, Davey Resource Group Environmental Consulting; Doak Marasco, regional manager, Davey Business Development Team; and Scott Davis, production manager, Chippers, a Davey company, Meredith office.
