UTILITY CREWS WORK TOGETHER FOLLOWING OHIO STORM
Left: A pole cracks in half during a destructive Northeast Ohio storm.
Right: Strong winds and two and a half inches of rain fell during
a storm in Wayne and Holmes counties in Ohio, which were under
a state of emergency.
During a late spring storm, wind gusts of around 90 mph
downed trees and broke poles in Holmes and Wayne
counties in Ohio. A total of 77 employees responded to the
storm. Davey employees from the Holmes-Wayne Electric
Cooperative, Inc. account were assisted by Davey crews
from the Carroll Electric Cooperative, City of Cuyahoga Falls,
FirstEnergy, and Blue Grass Energy accounts.
Glenn W. Miller, President and CEO, Holmes-Wayne Electric
Cooperative, Inc., said they had 252 broken poles, over 25
miles of line on the ground, and 10 of their 18 substations
were without transmission power. "With the commitment
and passion Davey's staff gave to safe and efficient power
restoration, we were able to have all members' power
restored in nine days," Miller said.
Mark Mittiga, account manager, Central Utility services,
said the rapid response the crews provided Holmes-Wayne
Electric Cooperative was excellent. "Our teams responded
efficiently in a time of need, performed quality work to save
as much electric hardware as possible, and most impor-
tantly, did so safely. Every crew had a plan and remained
focused on each specific job. The care Holmes-Wayne
Electric Cooperative provided for our crews was top of the
line as well," Mittiga said.
