4 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | July/August 2022 Q. WHY IS EMPLOYEE EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT IMPORTANT AT DAVEY? apply some of the arborist skills trainers' methods and, conversely, how our skills trainers can ensure they're teaching very sound safety components. We want to take both of those educational roles and leverage their ability to train employees where they are, in the field, in a hands-on way. The new Manager Training Program launched on the Davey Learning Management System (LMS) in June. It provides fundamental management skills in three categories: business skills, people skills, and leadership skills. It gives our managers a clear way for them to provide a new level of training for employees moving into new positions. It's also an incentive for employees to continue moving up in the company as a prerequisite to a new role for them. Our Factors and Forces training program has recently expanded to broaden its scope and reach more employees with on-site, in-person training sessions. It's a great success story about how an in-house, specialized training program came about. Factors and Forces provides an easy-to-use, memorable skillset to employees for reducing risk around climbing compromised trees, which is particularly important as we encounter more trees impacted by Emerald ash borer, Asian longhorned beetle, bark beetle and other factors. Few companies out there have the resources, skill and ability to pull them together to create that kind of training. But the vast majority of training provided here at Davey benefits our clients and the individual who wants to improve their knowledge base, who wants to learn techniques to make their jobs safer, more efficient and more effective. The company provides training as an investment to enrich your professional development, and hopefully at the same time Davey benefits by fostering and retaining engaged employees who take pride in being lifelong learners. The green industry also benefits from our investment in training because this commitment results in a higher degree of professionalism for our clients across North America. We recognize there is no one-size- fits-all solution to employee education. We're a diverse company with lots of different training requirements: from plant health care and tree care competency to computer literacy, client experience aptitude, leadership techniques and even driving expertise. That's why we offer a mix of on-the-job, virtual and self-guided learning opportunities. I'm particularly excited about the following three training programs that have been retooled or rolled out in 2022. Right now, we're reviewing how our arborist skills trainers and regional safety specialists can better align and work together. We're looking at how regional safety specialists can Development) Campus to provide training, in the immediate term we have a variety of educational programs available. It's important for employees to take advantage of these opportunities to invest in yourself, grow your knowledge base and advance your career. All training at Davey is geared toward employee education and development. Our goal is to get training in the hands of employees, wherever you are, to make it easier for you to be better, whatever "better" means. Whether that's being a better manager, better at client experience, or developing a better technical skillset, we're really working to be all-inclusive with our training offerings.
