16 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | March/April 2022 EASTERN UTILITY CREATES NEW LEADERSHIP PROGRAM Eastern Utility services created the Planting the SEED program to help managers transition to leadership roles. Autumn Dickerson, talent and client experience specialist, worked with Mike Testa, an outside facilitator, to create the program. It aims to develop effective and creative leadership. Three main priorities for the program are to help attendees learn how to be a courageous leader, hone the craft of leadership and build a leadership pipeline for future leaders. "I have this fascination with leadership, and I've been on this kick for the last decade. I've read countless books and tried to find mentors," said Josh Perro, account manager, DTE account. "Mike Testa brought it all home in this class. It was incredible and amazing how he put 10 years of me studying on my own into two days in a way that just clicked." The program had four virtual sessions, a two day in-person session in Kent, Ohio, and included peer-to-peer coaching small groups with individuals outside their service regions. "I thought the peer-to-peer coaching was fantastic," Perro said. "I haven't had a lot of peer interactions. I was promoted in 2020 and I hadn't had the opportunity to meet other supervisors from around the country. It was great to sit down with them and get feedback on what was going on in their area and talk some things through. It was amazing." LEADERSHIP The program used a leadership assessment tool that exposed attendees to their own leadership style and how others see them. "I noticed that I rated myself lower than what others rated me at, so it was a self-confidence boost for me," Josh Perro said. D.I.G.M.
