EXPERTISE
CLIMBER SPOTLIGHT: SUMMER PRICE
Summer Price won the women's division of the 23rd annual Georgia Tree
Climbing Championship presented by the Georgia Arborists Association
(GAA). Price is a climber for Arborguard, a Davey company, Atlanta office.
We asked Price a few questions about her experience as a climber:
1. How long have you been climbing and how did you get
your start in the industry?
I've been climbing for two and a half years. My dad owns a tree care
company that does removals and old school tree work, so that's where
I got my start. I left and went to work for another tree care company
before coming to Davey.
2. How long have you been with us?
I've been at Davey since May 2021.
3. How many competitions have you competed in?
This was only my second competition. I was not expecting to win.
I was competing to complete the requirements for my International
Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Tree Worker Climber Specialist certification.
It was exciting to win because there were a lot of talented female
climbers there. I felt pretty accomplished at the end of the competition.
4. What is your favorite event to compete in?
The speed ascent is my favorite. It's the least stressful event in the
competition and it is fun to see how fast you can climb.
5. Proudest moment from the competition?
I was really proud of how well I did in the aerial rescue competition.
It's an event that pushes me out of my comfort zone. It's the event
I struggled with the most during my first competition in Charlotte,
North Carolina. I'm really proud of how much I improved from my
first competition to this one.
6. What's next?
Because I won the Georgia Tree Climbing Championship, GAA is
sponsoring me to attend the International Tree Climbing Championship
in 2022 in Denmark.

THE VALUE
OF LISTENING
TO YOUR CLIENTS
Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc.,
(WSSI) a Davey company, and Davey
Resource Group (DRG) presented at
the 65th Mountain Lake Vegetation
Management Council's Meeting in
Blue Bell, Pennsylvania.
Roy Van Houten, director of energy,
WSSI, presented about integrated
habitat management and provided
an example of a client success story
to illustrate these practices. Justin
Walters, project manager, GIS/IT
support, DRG, spoke about vegetation
data collection and utilization.
"It was a good opportunity for Davey
to be in front of our clients as well
as industry peers," Van Houten said.
"The gist of my presentation is that
you have to keep the client as your
focus, and you have to be an active
listener. We are there to provide
integrated solutions to our clients that
maximize their dollar and put them
in a positive light. By listening to our
clients, we can often find other areas
where they need assistance that
will generate more opportunities
for Davey."
