19 January/February 2022 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN DAVEY SENDS STUDENTS TO ISA CONFERENCE Davey sponsored 141 arboriculture students to attend the 2021 International Society of Arboriculture's Virtual Conference. The sponsorship covered the registration costs for the select students. "Davey recognizes that students are the future of our industry and wanted to provide an opportunity for them to learn from today's industry leaders," said Kara Mayle, senior project manager, sponsorship and giving, corporate communications. Four of the 141 sponsored students were spotlighted on Davey's corporate social media accounts and shared why they were grateful for the opportunity to attend. PROMOTING GIRLS IN ARBORICULTURE Jaclyn Cullen presented to a group of students from the Canadian Association for Girls In Science's (CAGIS) London, Ontario, Chapter about what it means to be an arborist. CAGIS is an award-winning Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) club for girls ages seven to 16. Cullen's interactive presentation was part of their National Tree Day event. Cullen is a groundperson in the Davey Tree Expert Company of Canada, Limited, London office. She discussed careers in arboriculture, demonstrated how to use climbing gear, talked about tree identification and showed the students how to plant a white pine sapling over Zoom ® . "It was rewarding to give the presentation, because the girls had a lot of great questions and were already applying what they learned," she said. "It was nice to see their enthusiasm and interest in arboriculture as a career." Jaclyn Cullen showed the students her climbing gear and demonstrated a Blake's hitch.
