THE DAVEY BULLETIN
RETIRING TO FLORIDA'S BEACHES
The change of pace took some getting used to,
but Maureen Molnar adapted. From working in the
corporate office with Davey managers to strolling
the beaches of Florida, Molnar believes it's all worth
taking in stride.
Having grown up in Kent, Molnar was used to seeing
the green and yellow Davey trucks on the road but
never knew how big the company was until she started
as an accountant in 1990. For 27 years, Molnar worked
in accounting, internal reporting, and Residential
business analysis.
In 2018, a year after retiring, Molnar and her husband,
James, sold their Ohio home and moved to a condo
in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Their property overlooks the
Indian River Lagoon, quite the change from thick
Midwest woods. With their son, Justin, and his wife
working at Walt Disney World, the Molnars have enjoyed
countless trips to the amusement park while spending
time with their grandchildren, Arya, 4, and Parker, 7,
every Sunday.
"Time goes by quickly, in life and in retirement,"
Molnar said. "It's important to take time and spend it
with family while you can."
A year into their new life of retirement, she and her
husband got involved with the Sea Turtle Preservation
Society. Based in Brevard County, which has a high
concentration of sea turtle nests, the organization
helps protect and track sea turtles in the area. Every
Wednesday, from May through October, Molnar walks
a 2-mile stretch of beach recording turtle activities
and helping any babies that have trouble returning to
the sea.
"You think you know about an animal, but you really
don't know much until you get up close and really get
to understand them," she said. "It's incredible seeing
the journey these little creatures make every year."
Molnar looks back on her time at Davey and recognizes
that her experience was different from others. She
learned firsthand from past Davey executive leaders
and members of the Davey President's Council (of
which she was a member) the importance of employee
ownership. She began investing in Davey stock as
soon as she could, something that has sustained her
family in retirement.
"I believed in Davey, and I still do. Hearing from Davey's
leadership every day talk about the things that make
Davey a great company to work for was encouraging.
It made my investment worth it," she said. "As I've
read the Bulletin over the years, I see how the company
changes. But at the same time, the core principles of
doing it right and working hard have stayed the same.
And that foundation is what makes Davey a success."
