INTEGRITY
BE KIND TO
YOUR NEIGHBORS
Saws, chippers and bucket trucks
make a lot of noise. So, when crews
from the Davey Tree Expert Company
of Canada, Ltd., working on the Alectra
West account in Ontario saw children
gathering for a graduation ceremony
across the street, they quickly called
an all-stop.
The neighboring E.I. McCulley Public
School was preparing to start its
eighth-grade graduation ceremony
when the Davey crew kindly paused
their work so the students could enjoy
their moment in the sun.
Ben Goodwin, supervisor, Alectra West
account, said at the time of the event
in late June no large indoor gatherings
were permitted in Ontario.
"The gesture was probably especially
appreciated," Goodwin said. "The
outdoor ceremony was likely all those
kids were going to get."
PERFECT TIMING
TO CATCH A DOG
After a storm passed through, Nicholas
Lemley, sales arborist, Canton office,
was out on a call when he saw a
beagle puppy run past his truck,
followed by a man and his neighbors
giving chase. Lemley turned the truck
around, got ahead of the puppy and
whistled for him to come.
"I was just somebody new for him
to smell so he came running right up
to my open door," Lemley said. "The
homeowner said his gate had blown
open during the storm and the pup
got out. I'm a dog guy who happened
to be in the right place at the right
time to help him out."
"I am forever grateful that Nick Lemley was
able to help me save my dog who means so
much to me," said Kyle Bolyard, the owner
of a storm-drenched beagle puppy, in a
Facebook message to Davey.
DIRECTING A
SCHOOL BUS
TO SAFETY
Luis Vazquez, groundperson at the
Barrington R/C office, was on a job
site after a storm came through
a neighborhood causing downed
powerlines. A school bus driver
started heading down the street with
powerline damage, so Vazquez told the
driver she could not safely drive down
the street. He noticed her face quickly
express a look of panic, so he offered
to help her maneuver out of the area.
For about 10 minutes, Vazquez stood
behind the bus signaling the bus driver
where to turn, as well as directing other
cars in the neighborhood around the
bus. The bus driver was so appreciative
of Vazquez's willingness to help that
after she got back to her personal car
she drove back to the neighborhood
to give him a gift card. "Always give a
helping hand when you can," Vazquez
said. "It feels good to help others."
