LEARNING FROM THE BEST IN ILLINOIS
Davey supported and participated in the Illinois Arborist
Association's annual Student Forestry Field Days, providing
education sessions and recruiting opportunities for roughly
40 students from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and
the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The students
received hands-on training on the fundamentals of professional
climbing techniques from Charles Shonts, district manager,
Naperville office. The students also learned about arborist
equipment, safety protocols, invasive species management,
and chainsaw operation and felling techniques.
Charles Shonts was joined by Sean Zieche, district manager, Glen Ellyn
office; Tom Beshoar, district manager, St. Louis office; Kyle Carevic,
assistant district manager, St. Louis office; and Jon Corzine, district
manager, West St. Louis office, who participated in the climbing
techniques training at the IAA's annual Student Forestry Field Days.

Nine students and two professors
from the College of Wooster's new
Geosciences Careers program visited
the Davey Institute to learn about
opportunities in the arboriculture field.
The program focuses on Sciences,
Technology, Engineering and Math
(STEM) careers and is funded in part
by a grant from the National Science
Foundation, which Davey supported
as a professional cooperator. During
the visit, students heard from various
Davey speakers who talked about
