DAVEY PERSONAL EXCELLENCE CONTINUES IN 2021
Davey's corporate safety team held a second session of the Davey Personal Excellence (DPE) seminar in late July. Held
over Microsoft Teams, 47 employees from across service lines attended the virtual workshop. DPE is an organizational
strategy addressing safety and business effectiveness while reinforcing Davey safety principles. Sessions were led by
Jon Schmidt, regional safety specialist, and Mike Santos, safety manager, the Davey Tree Surgery Company.
Q: What does safety mean to you?
A: "Safety means everything. It means that my team
and myself get to go home to our loved ones. It means
that others around us are not endangered by the things
we are doing. During DPE I learned more about
performance and common human errors, and how
they occur and can be prevented."

Q: What does safety mean to you?
A: "To me, safety is setting yourself and your team
up to be protected from risk of injury or damage. We
want to put ourselves in a position to come out of
a situation as good as or better than we started."

Q: What does safety mean to you?
A: "Being safe is a mindset that keeps me protected
from harm and helps me avoid dangerous situations.
Being safe gives me the chance to control risks near
me. Attending DPE will help me to stay more alert of
my surroundings and look for anything unsafe to
prevent anyone from becoming injured."

Q: What does safety mean to you?
A: "I think safety is about having the true knowledge
and tools needed to navigate daily activities. Safety is
about being able to visualize all negative outcomes and
taking action to stop them before they occur using the
tools and resources Davey provides through trainings
like DPE."
