TREE SCAVENGER HUNT
MARKS PARK RENOVATION
Davey Resource Group (DRG) assisted their client the city
of Shorewood, Minnesota, with a scavenger hunt during
the Badger Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Celebration.
The goal of the event was to encourage residents to
explore the newly renovated park that is part of the city's
park redevelopment initiative.
DRG provides consulting forestry services to the city of
Shorewood. The South Minneapolis Residential/Commercial
office provides tree removal and plant health care services
to the city.
Gail Nozal, area manager, helped Julie Moore, the city's
communications director, identify trees for the scavenger
hunt and provided some prizes. Ryan Gustafson, project
developer, did preparation work behind the scenes before
the event. Nozal also set up a table at the event to provide
public education about Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) and
to talk about the homeowner education visits they do
within the community.
Participants learned how to identify trees during the scavenger
hunt. The tree in the photo is a ginkgo tree.

OLYMPIC SKATEBOARDING A DREAM FOR DAVEY CLIMBER
She is unusually agile in the tree branches and hardly has
a fear of heights. That's because Celina Meehan, trimmer
trainee, Wilmington R/C office, is also a skateboarder.
Not only that, but she nearly qualified for the inaugural
skateboarding contingent of Team USA at the 2020
Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
Meehan, 31, is originally from New Jersey but considers
herself a true "Philly skate rat." Though she's been skating for
over 20 years, she moved to Philadelphia to focus more on
street skating. She joined Davey last year, all while competing
for national skateboarding points at different events. Those
events culminated in the 2020 USA Skateboarding National
Championships, held in California, where the top eight
women competed and where Meehan
placed 6th in the women's street division.
"After working at Davey, my legs are
stronger which means I can jump higher
than other skaters and have more stamina
for tricks," Meehan said. "I also like being up
high. It's interesting how everything seems
smaller when you come down from the
trees. It's easy doing tricks in the streets
after climbing all day because the obstacles
just seem smaller, and the fear is gone."

While she enjoys skateboarding competitions,
she never had the goal of being an Olympian.
"I just enjoy street skating and doing
competitions when I can," she said.
