THE DAVEY BULLETIN
BRINGING LIGHT TO NASHVILLE
2020 was a hard year for Nashville. With an EF3 tornado
in March, the COVID-19 pandemic and the Christmas Day
bombing in downtown, the city was looking for a way to
encourage people to visit downtown. Rob Kraker, branch
manager, Nashville Commercial Landscape Services (CLS)
territory, joined with Aaron Matthews and Ashlynn Royce
from CLS and Stephen McLaren and Chase Myers from
Nashville's R/C office, to light 22 lacebark elm trees one
block away from the bombing site to beautify the downtown
area. The tree lighting was phase one of a city project that
Davey will stay involved with by continuing to light more
trees. This is the Nashville CLS office's second year in
operation, so being involved in this project was the perfect
opportunity to make a footprint in the city. "This was the
first tree lighting I've done in Nashville, so it felt good to
be a part of this project to light up the city after a tough
year," Kraker said.
For the second year in a row, Davey
sponsored Akron Parks Week this
May for a week of free events and
volunteer opportunities to encourage
residents to visit and celebrate the
historic parks of Akron. Activities
included planting trees, mulching,
staining picnic tables and yoga.
"Education is the key," said Jim
Jenkins, principal consultant, Davey
Resource Group, Environmental
Consulting, who helped volunteers
plant trees at the event. "I get
personal satisfaction from spreading
the good word about the benefits
of trees and teaching people how
to care for them," he said.

Davey partnered with the city
of Akron to support tree planting
efforts as part of Akron Parks
Week this spring. Numerous
Davey employees volunteered
at the event.
