17 January/February 2021 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN UTILITY SERVICES SUPPORTS ART SCULPTURE TRAIL Davey donated funds to help commission a sculpture for the Rutland Sculpture Trail in Rutland, Vermont. Green Mountain Power, a Davey client, is one of the collaborators for the Rutland Sculpture Trail and asked Matthew Roddy, operations manager, Eastern Utility services, if Davey would like to be a sponsor. The sculpture Davey helped commission will feature Tom Fagan, a local reporter and comic book fan, who started the comic-book themed Rutland Halloween Parade. This parade is the largest and longest-running Halloween parade in the U.S. Rutland also inspired the first crossover between Marvel and DC comics. The sculpture will be unveiled in 2021. "Davey in general sponsors a lot of things that are industry related, but this was an opportunity for Davey to participate in a local community with something that is a large part of its culture and identity," Roddy said. The Rutland Sculpture Trail is a collaboration of The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center, MKF Properties, Green Mountain Power and Vermont Quarries. Seven sculptures honoring local and regional history have been completed in the past few years. The sculpture pictured above is called the "54th Regiment." The Trail is intended to create local pride, recognize local history and people and beautify downtown Rutland. Photo Credit: Downtown Rutland Partnership Davey sponsored Akron Parks Week presented by the city of Akron and the Akron Parks Collaborative. Akron Parks Week included tree- planting events sponsored by Davey at Erie Island in West Akron and Joy Park in East Akron. Over 50 volunteers helped plant 100 trees at these parks. Jim Jenkins, senior associate consultant, Davey Resource Group, led the tree planting demonstrations and manned a table for Davey at the tree planting events.
