MEMORIALS
We are saddened by the loss of
Matthew Adams, who passed
away Sept. 26, 2020. Adams was
a sales arborist at the Indianapolis
R/C office.
We are saddened by the loss of
Michael Murray, who passed
away Sept. 20, 2020. Murray was
a foreman at the West Denver R/C
office. He is survived by a son,
Ryan Murray, who is an employee
of The Davey Tree Expert Co. of
Canada, Limited.
Rita Packard retired Sept. 6,
2020, following 33 years of service.
Packard started in 1987 as office
personnel at the Davey Tree
Surgery Company's Livermore office.
Richard Rathjens retired
Oct. 4, 2020, following 42 years
of service. He was technical
advisor and senior agronomist
at the Davey Institute. Rathjens
started in 1977 as a research
assistant/laboratory technician,
and worked as a specialist
within technical services. In 1984 he
was promoted to senior agronomist.
In 2006 the role of technical
advisor was added to his title.
Rathjens received the President's
Award from the Ohio Chapter
of the International Society of
Arboriculture (ISA) in 2018.Rathjens
was a longtime instructor at the
Davey Institute of Tree Sciences,
Davey Institute of Horticultural
Sciences, Davey Institute of Lawn
Sciences, and Davey Institute of
Grounds Maintenance.
Marcus Dale Shaw retired July 26,
2020, following seven years of
service. He was an equipment
operator and foreman on the
Florida Public Utilities account.
Johnny Wilson retired Oct. 11,
2020, following 48 years of service.
After serving seven years in the
U.S. Navy, Wilson was hired in
1972 on the Southern Bell Buried
Wire account in South Carolina and
was promoted in 1974 to foreman.
From 1982 to 1986, Wilson worked
as a trimmer and foreman on
the Duke Power account before
attending the Davey Institute of
Tree Sciences (D.I.T.S.) in 1986

Richard Rathjens Johnny Wilson
and being promoted to supervisor
of the Bell Electric account the
following year. In 1991, he was
promoted to account manager
of the western utility division in
South Carolina. Then, in 1992,
Wilson joined the corporate
safety department where he was
promoted to regional safety trainer,
senior regional safety specialist
and finally safety manager in 2011.
Wilson earned his master foreman
certification in 1980 and attended
the Davey Institute of Horticultural
Sciences in 1986.
We are saddened by the loss of
Rodney Strickland, who passed
away Aug. 4, 2020. Strickland had
been a member of the New Age
Communications Construction,
LLC, team, which joined Davey
Resource Group in 2018.
