BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Michele Carney retired Nov. 24,
2019, following 10 years of service.
Carney was coordinator, East
Columbus territory.
Rick Castro retired Jan. 5, 2020,
following 30 years of service.
Castro was district manager of
the Southeast Seattle office. He
started with Davey in 1989 as a
foreman at the Southeast Seattle
office and was promoted to sales
arborist in 1990 and assistant
district manager in 1992. Castro
is an ISA Certified Arborist
®
.
Ken Christensen retired Jan. 5,
2020, following 22 years of
service. Christensen was a senior
environmental consultant with
Davey Resource Group environmental
consulting. He started with Davey
in 1997.
John Emmons retired Jan. 26,
2020, following 30 years of service.
Emmons was a foreman at the
Southeast Seattle office. Emmons
started with Davey in 1989 as a
groundman at the Southeast Seattle
office. In 1993 he was promoted
to trimmer and a year later was
promoted to foreman.
Kimberly Simms retired Feb. 9,
2020, following 30 years of service.
Simms was a coordinator at the
East Dundee Shop in Illinois. She
started with Davey in 1990 as a
clerk at the shop.
Robert Simms retired Feb. 9,
2020, following 42 years of service.
Simms was manager of the East
Dundee Shop in Illinois. He started
with Davey in 1977 as a mechanic
at the Kent Shop before transferring
to the East Dundee Shop in 1988
as a mechanic.
David Stoessel retired Feb. 2,
2020, following 26 years of service.
Stoessel was a sales arborist at the
Rochester office. He started with
Davey in 1994.
RETIREMENTS
Charles D. Stapleton
Charles D. Stapleton has been
appointed to the Board of Directors
of The Davey Tree Expert Company.
Stapleton is the former Chief Operating
Officer and Executive Vice President
of Motorists Insurance Group, now,
Encova Insurance, a regional provider
of auto, home, business and life
insurance. Stapleton retired in 2018.
Davey Chairman, President and
CEO Pat Covey said Stapleton's past
experience will serve him well
at Davey.
"Charlie has a great understanding of

the operational aspect of running
a company, and deep experience
in the mergers and acquisitions
arena," Covey said. "He also has a
true appreciation of the importance
of valuing employees, and as an
employee-owned company, I think his
perspective will fit our culture well."
Stapleton is a graduate of Bluffton
University, where he earned a
bachelor's degree in Education. He is
a board member of BrickStreet Mutual
Insurance Company and serves on
Encova's affiliate boards. Stapleton
also served as a board member of
Bluffton University and was President
of the Central Ohio Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation. He is a Chartered Property
Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and an
Associate in Risk Management (ARM).
