14 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | March/April 2020 Angel Chiclana and Mike Ashe volunteer outside of work to build a KaBOOM! playground set on a weekend in Akron. THREE VOLUNTEER FOR KABOOM! Three employees from Davey's Central Utility Region volunteered their weekend to help construct a KaBOOM! playground in Akron close to Akron Children's Hospital. Mike Ashe, general foreman, and Tyler Ashe, trimmer, from the City of Cuyahoga Falls account, along with Angel Chiclana, general foreman, FirstEnergy account, helped construct a playground for the national nonprofit that works to build recreation spaces in underserved neighborhoods across VOLUNTEERING WITH VETERANS FOR CLIENT Working alongside employee veterans from the Cincinnati Catholic Cemetery, a small crew from Davey's North Cincinnati office spent Veteran's Day removing pines and pruning among the headstones at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in St. Bernard, Ohio. Volunteers included Jason Muchmore, district manager, John Haggerty, trimmer, and Robert Tolle, foreman. The account was fostered by Brian Borkowicz, project developer, National Business Development Team. the country. Equipment came in sections and volunteers pieced together the climbing bars, slides, decorative walls and other contraptions of childhood fun. Davey's partnership with FirstEnergy made the volunteer opportunity possible. "KaBOOM! is a great organization that is doing good things in communities, so we were more than happy to help out," said Mike Ashe. "Those guys know how to build a playground. I wish I had had one like it when I was a kid." MISSION "A day like this, I know that this is my Davey Tree," Muchmore said. "The entire process has been a joy, from developing the client into a genuine relationship and then being able to give back to them. Volunteering is a way to recognize and thank those veterans that have sacrificed and served our community."
