10 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | July/August 2019 WESTERN MANAGERS GET 2-DAY SAFETY TRAINING Davey managers and supervisors from the Davey Tree Surgery Company, Commercial Landscape Services, Residential/Commercial and Davey Resource Group attended a two-and-a-half-day safety leadership program in Pleasanton, California. Attendees reviewed and heard presentations on a number of topics, including The Davey Road to Zero, regulations in the green industry, Davey Personal Excellence, trends in contractor evaluation and selection, incident reporting, fleet operations and more. SAFETY STRESSING THE IMPORTANCE OF SAFETY Natascha Batchelor, district manager, Cape Cod R/C office, spoke to the Business Networking International (BNI) group about Davey's safety culture and what sets our company apart in terms of safe business practices. The major point Batchelor wanted to establish was the hiring of a professional, safety-minded company. During the presentation, she explained how Davey follows the ANSI Z133 standards. She even brought in Davey's Safety and Training Manual to illustrate the level of our safety standards and how we view safety as a value. "If they are hiring an arborist and that arborist doesn't know what the safety standards are, they shouldn't be considered," Batchelor said. "What we do is highly skilled and it's important to hire people that are well trained." During the presentation, Batchelor demonstrated the basic safety gear worn by Davey employees on a job site.
