27 May/June 2019 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN VMware, a Davey client, received an Arnold Soforenko Award, which recognizes significant contributions to the local urban forest, from Canopy in Palo Alto, California. VMware won for creating the first comprehensive tree management plan for a corporate campus in Palo Alto. DRG inventoried the campus' 3,300 trees and proposed a long-term plan to manage and renew the campus canopy over the next 20 years. Pictured are Catherine Martineau, executive director of Canopy, and Elizabeth Lanham, project manager, DRG. Congratulations to the VMware management plan team for their work on this project! Davey won in two separate categories of the professional communications awards: marketing campaign and newsletter/blog. The professional communications awards program honors marketing and communications excellence within the tree care industry. The "Tree Rx Campaign," the focus of Davey's public relations efforts in 2018, was recognized in the marketing campaign category. The Davey Bulletin, Davey's internal employee magazine, was awarded in the newsletter/blog category. Congratulations! Shannon Westphal, sales arborist, The Care of Trees (TCOT), a Davey company, Barrington office, will serve another 3-year term on the board of directors of the Ancient Oaks Foundation. Natalie McNeill, district manager, Fort Collins R/C office, is wrapping up her four-year term on the International Society of Arboriculture Rocky Mountain Chapter board of directors. She is currently serving in the role of past president. McNeill started on the board in 2016 as the vice president. In 2017, she was president-elect and became president in 2018. Thank you, Natalie, for representing Davey on this board and for the great work you've done! Davey's work for the Michigan Department of Transportation I-75 Modernization Landscaping Project won the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Beautification Award. Lee Mueller from the Davey Resource Group and Doug Schultz from ROWE Professional Services Company nominated the project to the Arboriculture Society of Michigan (ASM), Michigan Chapter ISA awards committee. Davey Resource Group (DRG), the Davey Nursery, the Detroit North Commercial Landscape Services territory and the North Detroit R/C office all came together to improve I-75's aesthetics just outside Detroit for the client, MDOT. The Michigan highway now has the fresh greenery of 4,400 carefully selected trees and shrubs and native pollinator habitat. Congratulations to everyone who worked on this project!
