23 May/June 2019 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN Richard Balik retired March 10, 2019, following five years of service. Balik was a UVM specialist on the Duke Power account. Rex Bastian retired March 31, 2019, following 30 years of service. Bastian was a technical advisor in the Davey Institute. Bastian started at Davey in 1989 as a technical service coordinator with The Care of Trees (TCOT). He was promoted to plant health care entomologist in 1992, director of technical services in 1996 and vice president of field education and development at TCOT in 2008. In 2012 he was named a technical advisor at the Davey Institute. In 2017 the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) presented Bastian with an Award of Distinction and the Award for Merit, the ISA's highest honor. John Bretsch retired April 9, 2019, following 40 years of service. Bretsch was district manager of the East Denver office. Bretsch started at Davey in 1995 as a sales arborist in the Wilhelm-Davey R/C office in Denver. In 1999 Bretsch was promoted to assistant district manager of the Denver office. In 2006, he was appointed district manager of the newly created East Denver office. Bretsch holds a bachelor's degree in entomology from Colorado State University. John Bretsch Rex Bastian Mariano Cipriano Fred Brock retired April 7, 2019, following 42 years of service. Brock was a foreman on the FirstEnergy account. Brock joined Davey in 1977 as a trimmer on the Cleveland PBI account. Brock was promoted to foreman in 1984 in the Akron division of the Ohio Edison account. In 2016 Brock was recognized for being 25 years accident free and a year later celebrated 40 years with Davey. Mariano Cipriano retired April 14, 2019, following 34 years of service. Cipriano was a sales arborist in the Northern Virginia office. Cipriano started at Davey in 1985 as a groundman in the Northern Virginia tree and lawn care office. In 1986 he was promoted to plant health care technician. He became a sales and service technician in 1988 and in 1990 was promoted to sales and service coordinator. In 1996 he was promoted to sales arborist. He is a D.I.T.S. and D.I.H.S. graduate. Carl Dimmick retired Feb. 3, 2019, following 11 years of service. Dimmick was a mechanic in the Wolf Tree shop. Richard Dorset retired March 3, 2019, following 20 years of service. Dorset was a service and sales technician in the Raleigh office. Frank Lucido retired Feb. 10, 2019, following six years of service. Lucido was a foreman on the DTE Energy account. Anibal Medina retired April 14, 2019, following 15 years of service. Medina was a sales and service technician in the Kansas City office. Daniel McGrath retired March 31, 2019, following 26 years of service. McGrath was a sales arborist in the Albany office. McGrath started at Davey in 1992 as a sales and service technician in the Albany residential office. He is a 2008 D.I.T.S. graduate. James Mettler retired March 3, 2019, following three years of service. Mettler was a utility vegetation management senior specialist on the PECO/BGE account. Jeff Newborn retired March 17, 2019, following eight years of service. Newborn was a sales arborist in the Kansas City office. Kenneth Sedgeman retired March 3, 2019, following 37 years of service. Sedgeman was a sales arborist in the South Detroit office. Sedgeman started with Davey in 1982 as a Lawnscape technician in the South Detroit office and in 1987 was promoted to sales and service coordinator for the North- east Chicago office. Sedgeman was promoted to sales arborist in 1990. He is a D.I.T.S. and D.I.H.S. graduate. RETIREMENTS Daniel McGrath Kenneth Sedgeman
