17 September/October 2018 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN Davey President and CEO Pat Covey (right) presents a $10,000 check to Tom Franek to support the arboriculture program at Theodore Roosevelt High School. DAVEY SUPPORTS HIGH SCHOOL ARBORICULTURE PROGRAM High school students studying arboriculture are getting some brand-new, professional grade climbing equipment thanks to support from Davey. Davey made a $10,000 donation to the arboriculture program at Theodore Roosevelt High School, located next to the corporate campus. The money, along with a $5,000 grant from the TREE Fund, will pay for the purchase of 15 new sets of climbing gear, which includes ropes, harnesses, lanyards and carabiners. The program is part of a six-district compact which includes students from across Northeast Ohio. Students in the program have worked alongside Davey employees, including at The John Davey Arboretum, to learn proper pruning and other tree care methods. Davey President and CEO Pat Covey presented the donation to Tom Franek, the program's instructor, this summer. R/C WESTERN OPERATIONS UNITE SUMMER INTERNS Davey's Colorado Residential/Commercial (R/C) management team held a dinner for their five summer interns at the beginning of their internship to connect them with their other fellow interns and interact with the larger team in an informal setting. "It also allows our teams to make our interns feel like they are part of a larger group, an organization, a team of people who work well together and take care of trees better than anyone else," said Andy Ferguson, operations manager, South Central R/C Operating Group. This year's interns were Kameron Krause, Boulder office, Logan Henry, Fort Collins office, Logan Cinnamon, North Denver office, Wiley Schatz, South Denver office, and Ka Mele Sanchez, East Denver office. They received a comprehensive look at the R/C service line by working in each department for a few weeks and spending time with the sales, management and office support staff. Schatz was hired on full-time at the South Denver R/C office. Henry, Cinnamon, Krause and Sanchez completed their internships and are back at school for the fall.
