How to Plant a Tree: Part Two

October 26, 2009

One of the most rewarding things you can do for yourself and the environment is to plant a tree.  For more information about planting trees or seasonal tree care tips, visit http://www.davey.com.

RJ Laverne, Davey Tree Service expert and ISA Certified Arborist, is going to continue taking you through how to plant a tree, step by step.

Following these simple tree planting steps will help ensure that your tree is a strong and healthy addition to your landscape.

Step 7: Transport your tree carefully by only moving it by the root ball. The hardware and protective plastic material stays on the tree until after it’s in the hole.

Step 8: Make sure to remove the wire basket before you finish planting, so it doesn't interfere with the roots. The material around the root ball, if natural burlap can stay, it will decompose over time; however, if it is synthetic burlap it needs to be removed.

Step 9: Roll the root ball into the carefully dug hole, do it by only using the ropes and the basket to hold onto. Then, position the tree just right.

Contact your local professionally trained arborist with any concerns or questions you may have during you next tree planting project.
