33 May/June 2018 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN SAFETY IS A TEAM RESPONSIBILITY The March/April cover of the Davey Bulletin featured a photograph of two Davey employees climbing at an event sponsored by an ISA Chapter. Like all pictures and videos Davey shows or shares, they are reviewed for safety concerns. This one got by us. If you look closely, the climber on the left is only tied-in to a single scaffold limb, the climbing line is a few inches out and the leg straps on the climbing harness aren't connected. This brings up a good point about what we are referring to as a "pictorial job observation." There are cameras everywhere now, and people really like to take pictures of the work that we do. If we don't treat these as a chance to improve, they are missed opportunities. We appreciate the fact that some readers noticed this and brought it to our attention, and we challenge everyone to take a closer look, not only at the photographs and videos you see but also your work areas and techniques. What do you think the camera would see that you might not notice at a quick glance? -The Corporate Safety Team BOARD ELECTION Catherine M. Kilbane has been elected to the board of directors of The Davey Tree Expert Company. Kilbane is the retired senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of The Sherwin-Williams Company. Kilbane currently serves on the board of directors of The Andersons, Inc. (NASDAQ:ANDE), a diversified agribusiness company, where she chairs the nominating and governance committee and is the lead independent director. "Cathy has many qualities that we value at Davey Tree, but foremost among them is her strength as a business leader," said Pat Covey, president and CEO. "Specifically, she's spent significant time creating and implementing business strategies, often with some of the best leaders here in Northeast Ohio. I'm sure she'll be a terrific addition to our board." Kilbane graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a bachelor's degree in English and from Case Western Reserve School of Law with a juris doctor degree. She is a trustee of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and the Cuyahoga Community College Foundation.
