9 March/April 2018 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN DAVEY SPONSORS OHIO 5K RACES Davey Tree ran its way around a couple Northeast Ohio 5K races to support the local community. With a sponsorship and local office presence in the Race for Wellness 5K, Davey was a force to be reckoned with. Frank Monteleone, regional business development manager; Vito Monteleone, branch manager for Cleveland West CLS; and Steve Hovan, landscape crew leader for Cleveland West CLS, staffed a booth with giveaways and information for attendees. All proceeds from the event benefited the Lorain Free Clinic. Davey also sponsored the Lakeview Cemetery Foundation's 6th Annual Race Through History in Cleveland. The event included a wellness fair, 5K race, 1-mile walk and a fall themed, kid-friendly relay race for individuals or teams. In addition to the corporate sponsorship, Davey was represented in the race by five employees. Davey runners dashed to the finish of the Lakeview Cemetery Foundation's 5k race. SUPPORTING INDUSTRY RESEARCH The TREE Fund's Utility Arborist Research Fund (UARF) endowment reached nearly $1.2 million in 2017. Davey was a leading donor along with longtime client PG&E. In 2016, PG&E offered the PG&E Challenge – a matching gift program in which the REVIVING THE SCENERY AT DETROIT'S PINGREE PARK Davey's Northeast Detroit R/C office and other green industry companies helped Project EverGreen rehab Pingree Park, one of Detroit's largest parks. Project EverGreen, a national non-profit organization, works to increase awareness and make known the importance of green spaces in communities. The Northeast Detroit office removed dead trees and pruned others to provide sight clearance to all the walking paths. Volunteers helped the office manage the brush and used the woodchips to install mulch rings around the trees.
