Lester Yost FROM THE ARCHIVES THE ROOTS OF EMPLOYEE OWNERSHIP In March 1979, Davey employees made a leap of faith. They trusted in themselves and mustered the will – and financing – to buy The Davey Tree Expert Company from the Davey family, which had put the company up for sale two years earlier. A total 114 Davey employees subscribed and were the first employee-owners of the company. Much has changed in the 38 years since the acquisition. But one thing remains the same. The resolve of today's Davey employees to further the success of the employee- ownership model remains as strong as ever.
