THE DAVEY BULLETIN
Left: Crews are only halfway through the removal process in
this area. Parker would like to eventually donate some trees to the
township to repopulate these open areas with new trees after the
dead and dying ash trees are removed.
HOW YOU CAN BUILD
THE RELATIONSHIP
For offices wanting to work with
municipalities, Parker advises
knowing their bidding process,
because it can be cumbersome.
It gives the opportunity to lend
your expertise to make the
process easier.
His other major tip is
communication. Parker said
during his conversations with
the parks and recreation director they talked about the
township's plans, came up with a plan to help and tried
to figure out a way for his office to be a good fit with the
township's needs.
"Annually every township that we work with or would like
to work with gets a letter from us," Parker said. "We want
to make sure we are still part of their bidding process, so
we can be kept in the loop. Even
if we don't win anything, it will
keep our name in front of them."
For the offices not dealing with
EAB yet, Parker said reach out
to the local townships to inform
them of the seriousness of EAB
and encourage them to come
up with a plan for when it hits
their region.
"We are seeing that a lot of these
townships have been waiting and
waiting," Parker said. "Now they are up against this huge
project and they have no funding."
Pre-planning is something you can help these municipalities
with, so they are better prepared, he said.
"EAB certainly isn't going away," Parker said. "Some sort
of strategic approach is good."
Below: Crews are working in the outside perimeter of a local park that
backs up to residential properties. Dead ash trees 60 feet to 70 feet
from the property line are being removed. In this picture alone, there
are probably 100 or more dead ash trees that need to be removed
"
Our hope is that beyond
this initial project, we
can just keep going
and being their tree
care professionals
for the pruning and
other work.
