UPDATES BRIGHTEN CORPORATE LANDSCAPE
The Cleveland East Commercial Landscape Services (CLS)
territory undertook not one but two landscape renovation
projects for Davey's corporate headquarters in 2017.
In the spring, Dan Joy, executive vice president and general
manager, Commercial Services, and Mark Svozil, senior vice
president of operations, CLS, approached Geoffrey Blind,
account manager, Cleveland East CLS territory, to renovate
the existing pond and add a patio behind the main building.
Molly Senter, property manager, corporate office, said the
pond renovations were tentatively scheduled for several
years. However, the patio became a new priority for 2017 at
the behest of Karl Warnke, Davey chairman and retired CEO.
Blind and Senter credited Kyle Smedi, foreman, Cleveland
East CLS, and his crews for their hard work and attention to
detail on the project.
"They spent a lot of time on these projects and worked
hard to make them look good, and it shows," Senter said.
The pond project was about aesthetics, Blind said. The goal
was to reestablish the border around the edge, which had
eroded since its construction in 1985.
"We wanted to get back to a nice clean look, where the
new stone collar met up against the turf all the way around
the pond," Blind said. "The goal was to match the current
traditional look of the entire grounds."
For the patio, Warnke requested a space for the employees
to enjoy while adding a nice transition from the corporate

building to the Davey Institute, Blind said.
This project was not just about aesthetics. There were
some functional components as well. The walkway from the
parking lot to the cafeteria door was improved and widened.
Some significant drainage problems also were resolved.
Landscape beds and stone benches were added during
the project. Blind said he can't wait until spring to see the
finished product when all the plants are blooming. The plant-
ings, installed in the fall, bloom through the growing season.
"I'm excited to see how the spring awakens everything,"
Senter said.
